kickboxing

Kickboxing is a stand-up combat sport based on kicking, punching and knee strikes, historically developed from Karate, Muay Thai, Taekwondo, and Western style boxing. It can be considered a hybrid martial art formed from a combination of elements of these various traditional styles. Kickboxing is practiced for self-defense, general fitness, or as a contact sport. Training in kickboxing has been proven to be a full body workout that will help anyone get in great shape, attain physical fitness and lose weight. Our kickboxing program will help you build lean muscle and develop outstanding conditioning through challenging drills, combinations, and pad work. Classes are physically demanding and designed to improve cardio respiratory health, overall fitness and concentration. Our kickboxing classes incorporate a variety of exercises, making them an ideal workout for those who are easily bored by more repetitive and monotonous forms of exercise. We practice a variety of kicks and punches that will improve balance and increase flexibility
Although getting fit is a very real side effect of our training it is not the main focus during our classes. Our coaches will take you through all the footwork drills, punch combinations, and single shots plus all their counter defensives step by step. Our instructors put emphasis on teaching the correct technique and movements in order to build a proper kickboxing foundation from the start. We start slowly and lightly then gradually build up the level of speed and power. The sequence of every strike is broken down at a pace that suits your needs. In a typical class we start with a good warm up such as skipping and shadowboxing. After warming up you can expect a variety of challenging exercises such as beginner and advanced kickboxing combos, Muay Thai and dutch style striking technique, blocking and counter defenses, heavy hitting/explosive Thai Pad drills, (teaching you realistic striking power and movement) partner drills (to improve your balance, coordination and ability to gauge distance) heavy bag and banana bag drills (for fine tuning our punches, kicks and knee strikes) A mix of striking technique, blocking technique, jump rope, shadow boxing and a ton of exciting, engaging exercises. Instructors are close for any assistance you may require. If you want to train like an athlete but are not interested in competing, this class is perfectly suitable for you. As you advance through our kickboxing program you will develop outstanding kickboxing technique, increase your strength and get you in phenomenal physical shape.
While many members enjoy our classes for recreation and fitness, there are others who train to compete. For students that are ready for the extra challenge, competitive opportunities are available. For athletes who are interested in competing, our fight camp program and our trainers offer the key elements for your success. This means joining our advanced kickboxing program, competing in tournaments with the team and eventually fighting at events under our banner. Time is frequently allotted for sparring after class (optional). You must have your own mouth guard, hand wraps, cup, headgear, shin protection and 16 oz. boxing gloves to participate in sparring.
