This class is perfectly suitable for experienced kickboxing students who want to train with fighters and get in shape like a fighter without the stress of getting into a formal ring fight. This program is by invite only. New students must spend a minimum of 6 months (training fairly regularly) in our general kickboxing program before moving up to advanced. If you are wanting to move up from our general kickboxing classes or you are from outside the gym there will be an assessment for you to qualify.
Competition is not for everyone. Most students at Victoria Martial Arts have no interest in ever competing in a kickboxing match. However if you are thinking about becoming a fighter or you already have fight experience then joining our advanced program will be key in your journey. VMA will certainly take you to the height of your fighter potential.

During our advanced classes, our coaches will break down the sequence of every move, whether it’s basic or intermediate. You can expect a highly intense training routine that has been refined over the course of our coaches careers. In a typical advanced class we will start with a good warm-up consisting of skipping and shadowboxing etc. We will then partner up and practice Kickboxing and Muaythai technique consisting of foot work, balance, punch combinations, kicks, knees, elbows, defence, counter defence, clinching etc. In every class, you will experience intense heavy bag work and intense pad work. Time will be allotted at the end of class for students who want to spar. Sparring is always optional (for non-competitive students).

Our elite competitive fight team

So you want to be a fighter? Through years of experience, our qualified coaches have developed a formula for success. We know what it takes to train for a fight and succeed. At it’s core our fight program builds humble warriors and promotes hard work, determination and perseverance. Not only do we want you to be successful, we also want to keep it safe and fun. We provide our fighters with a rigourous training program and we focus on all aspects that encompass a healthy fighter. Training for a ring fight will gradually transform you mentally and physically. You might have heard it before, fighting is 90% mental however our fighters will have to train very hard when representing our gym. You will need to train 5-6 days a week at least 2 hours a day. This includes doing your road work. Our students don’t get to decide went to fight. That is determined by us by how quick you pick up and refine your techniques (for a beginner) and how well you perform under sparring. We very rarely let anyone enter a ring fight unless they have had at least a year of consistent training. Some people can take as little as 6-8 months and others can take years, some people never have a fight. Matches for amateur Kickboxers are three two-minute rounds. It might not sound like a lot until you are actually in the ring, when two minutes can seem like two hours. Sparring sessions will escalate as well as training days leading up to the big event. Your body weight should reflect a very cut up athletic build. This is done through training, diet and conditioning. The less fat you carry the more efficient your body will work. A reward for doing all this due diligence whether you win or lose it, will be one of the most exhilarating moments in your life. You will now be mentally and physically transformed into someone that can stand up for themselves in and out of the ring.
